- Obituary - Goderich man dies at age 69. John Peter Wild of Goderich died at his residence on Monday, October 6, 1986. He was 69. A farmer in Bayfield, he was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Goderich and a member of Father Stephen Eckert Council Knights of Columbus No. 5289, Seaforth. He was born in Bayfield on August 5, 1917 to Valentine Wild and the former Agnes O'Sullivan, both deceased. His wife is the former Phoebe Anne Bedard. Also surviving are sons Joseph of Bayfield, Peter and his wife Wendy of Bayfield, and Patrick of London. Also, daughters Rosemary and husband Don Corriveau of Goderich, Barbara Desjardins of Goderich and Theresa Wild of London. He has two brothers, Joseph and Louis Wild both of Clinton and one sister, Vera (Mrs. Oscar Priestap) of Clinton. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Etue. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sheila and Bryan Corriveau, Paula, Richard and Michael Desjardins. Funeral Mass was held at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Goderich on Wednesday, October 8, with Rev. Joseph Hardy officiating. Prayers were held on Tuesday night, followed by a Knights of Columbus Memorial Service at the McCallum and Palla Funeral Home. Knights of Columbus formed a Guard of Honor at the church. Pallbearers were Stephen Bedard, Gilbert DeSchutter, Carol DeSchutter, Doyle Talbot, Paul Priestap and Bill Wild. Interment St. Peter's Cemetery, St. Joseph's, Ontario.
Lake Road East, Sauble Line, Bluewater Highway 21, Lot 1 East part: Joseph Wild, born in 1825 in Germany, came to Canada in 1846. He came to Stanley Township in 1847 and obtained his deed to the farm shortly after. His wife, Freda Bickle was born in Germany in 1835. They were Roman Catholic. Part of their house was built in 1870 and was added on to in 1898 (some 28 years later). Valentine Wild and his wife Agnes O'Sullivan took possession in 1900. Following Valentine's passing, Agnes took over the farm in 1929. In 1948 the farm was passed to their son John Peter Wild and his wife Anne Bedard. Anne was born in Zurich, Ontario. The farm was passed to Joseph Peter Wild in 1986. This farm has been in the family for well over a century, some 172 years in Dec 2019.
