      The infant child of John J. Ryder, of the Globe, died suddenly last evening at his home on University avenue. The death is peculiarly sad, as Mr. Ryder has been in Chicago attending the national convention, and did not know of the little one's illness.

      Mrs. Wilhelmina Gies Ryder was born at St. Paul, Minn., educated at the schools of this city and married here in 1890 to Senator J.J. Ryder, then a local newspaper man. Mrs. Ryder is not at all interested in club work, is not fond of the "new woman idea", is in demeanor a plain home-body. The adjective plain, however, does not apply to her appearance. Mrs. Ryder has two favorite hobbies, Mary, the nine-year-old only child and the senator from Polk. She is domestic in her tastes, and a modest and genial hostess.
